The Treasure Island Memorial Follies

A speculative project set on Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay. A man-made island constructed for the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition, the site was once opulent and filled with extravagant fairground architecture. However, less than two years later, the fantastical buildings were repurposed for military use, creating a jarring juxtaposition. The models in this project represent memorials which could reanimate the now dilapidated island and tell the stories of its rich history.

The models made for this project were exhibited in the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Show and awarded the British Institution Prize for Best Student Work in Show.
